The Caribbean is composed of hundreds of islands stretching from the tip of Key West Florida, touching South America at Venezuela, and winding east to Mexico's Yucatan peninsula.  These tropical islands have an  inherent beauty unto themselves.  Some have long sandy beaches, others have abundant marine life, and still others have a history out of this world (remember Christopher Columbus landed here and called it the New World.) Click on an island in the map below to learn more about that particular island.

Our beautiful villager from Barbados celebrates Carnival every nightIf its February, it's the height of carnival time.  A sea of satin costumes shimmers and sparkles in the tropical sun; masqueraders strut and thrust, swaying at the hip, midriffs clamped in a conga-line like a massive sequined snake. The noise is deafening-lose at hand the raucous clanging of steel bands, elsewhere the thunder of amplified soca drumbeats. Carnival typifies the exuberance of the Caribbean-the color, the high spirits and the irresistible dancing rhythms. To be part of it is an amazing experience.

After the week's nonstop dancing of Carnival, you will actually need a vacation, but then that's the Caribbean's specialty. Somewhere quiet, perhaps, on a deserted beach, a place to rest and let the ringing in your ears subside with a cocktail and an uninterrupted view over the sea to the sunset. An easygoing life among charming West Indian people, in a setting of startling tropical beauty and gentle reggae music-this is the other side to the Islands.

Just another beautiful sunset as one swims at a typical Caribbean beach The Caribbean islands are ideal for a little laziness, but after a while you begin to get the itch for activity. An ideal day would be spent scuba-diving or windsurfing in the morning, enjoying lunch in the elegance of an old plantation house, with the afternoon spent walking in the rain forest or exploring a colonial city. As ever, though, the day ends with dancing in the warm tropical night, to rhythms of salsa, merengue, and zouk.

Every Caribbean traveler has their favorite island; a charmed isle where they feel they belong. You may fall in love with it the moment your feet touch the sand on coming ashore, or it may grow on you gradually, within the heady mix of tropical smells, music, and rum, but you'll know it when you find it.  Is there a favorite island? Well, it's a tough choice because people love them all. There are about 50 islands, ranging from tiny coral outcrops to large and lively industrialized nations, and they each have their own distinct charm and appeal. Read on and you'll find out more.

But knowing the common culture and the common blessings (sun, sand, sea, and sports) doesn't explain why travellers often love one island above all others. The factors that go into that are as different as the range of human interests and inclinations. Outstanding Characteristics of the Caribbean Islands

The following chart emphasizes the special strengths of each island, as well as what you should not expect to find there.

The Caribbean Cultural Center's villages (all twelve representing a unique geographic and cultural Caribbean site) is a venue mixed with fun and entertainment along with cultural enrichment and history.  We capture the real Caribbean all in one place for a fun filled relaxing vacation.
