People aboard the pirate ship taking the tour

Come to the tantalizing  Virgin Island village and you are in for a few surprises. First, you will not be coming to any island, land, or village whatsoever, but a ship. Second, it is not just any kind of ship but a genuine pirate ship lying in wait off a secluded cove in St. Thomas. Third, this fast moving ship and its gallery of rogues has all the ambience of real cut throats. Who knows which villain will be aboard when you visit: Sir Francis Drake, Henry Morgan, or Blackbeard. Any one of them could be heard bellowing "The floggings will continue until morale improves!" You will recognize Edward Teach a.k.a. Blackbeard as the large man with ribbons tied in his long pigtails and beard. He also has slow burning fuses in his hat so that he actually appears on fire like the devil himself to friends and foes.

Our pirates will show you aboard. They will even make a one time exception for the womenfolk only because when they are on the high seas women are not allowed. Somehow, it is considered bad for morale and anyone caught bringing a woman aboard faced death. So husbands, be very careful - its not your wife's throat which will be cut but yours. Don't forget to swear to the "articles" stating your complete obedience to the captain, keeping your weapons clean, and refraining from cards among other things. And if you are good, maybe you can cajole a shipmate to take you below decks to see the silks, arms, grog, rum barrels, and the captains treasure chest too. But that could be asking too much for your first visit. Yet what do have to lose? Ah your life, if he is in a foul mood after his carousing.

Pirate ship at dusk with sail downOur pirates are full of swashbuckling adventures and stories, especially if they had their own explosive rum punch, that is, rum mixed with gun powder. But let's get to some common and harsh facts. Piracy started after the Spanish discovered gold and thereafter no ship was safe in the Caribbean. Captains who resisted faced a devious death if they lost the fight. Pirates who were captured faced certain death too. So a decision had to made, either surrender peacefully when you saw the black jack and skull or someone faced certain death. Our privateers will depict what life is like on board. You will see them dressed in period attire which means them wearing ear rings. This was considered to help ones eyesight. And any trick was used to help him sight a merchant ship for which he received an extra bounty. He will be wearing baggy pants and shirts and a Jacobin cap or turbine, and of course walking barefoot across the wooden deck. But there is more to tell then meets the eye so it is well worth the visit shipmates.
